Will the PowerB(Ice) Age kill the Excelasaurus?
This episode we are talking Excel. Excel may be one of the most widely and frequently used software programs in our industry. The tool provided easy solutions to many peoples’ problems and was easily learned.
The problem that we have with Excel is that it hordes information that isn’t easily shared with other project members. It also requires an individual to manually enter data that is already known. It doesn’t manifest or create data, it just organizes what we already know.
With the development of data driven content in our building models, new more intuitive ways to organize and leverage this data have arisen. Power BI has become a more popular tool in construction. Dashboards that display data in organized fashions are now accessible to project members on a web browser. These dashboards are also updating in real time and don’t require an individual to manually update it.
Our goal with this post isn’t to talk about how we want to make Excel extinct, it is for others to tell us how they are moving beyond Excel. The Construction Dorks are challenging our members to submit how they are curing their Excel habit below and we’ll share those on the podcast. Register here for the live recording.
